The D16 was a less expensive version of the D-18 with Martin’s substitute for ebony (Richlite) used for the fretboard and bridge. Otherwise it has a solid mahogany back and sides and a sitka spruce top (as the D18). The GT designated Gloss Top – that the spruce soundboard was polished to a gloss finish but the body remained in satin finish however this particular guitar has a complete gloss finish – a luthier update or a special order? The guitar (serial number 935685) was made in 2003, I’ve owned it for 15 years. It has been played regularly and shows some evidence of this use: wear of the finish on the back of the neck, a ding on the sound board at the top side of the lower bout, a bruise on the upper bout where it meets the back on the front, and a ding / scrape on the top of the peghead. Not in mint condition but it sounds great which I why I’ve kept it for so long. No major problems – action is good and there are no rattles or string buzz. Frets have been dressed some years ago and show very little wear. Comes in its original hardshell case with a soft green lining.
