Breeding group of bantam barred cochin available. I got an opportunity to get some birds from a breeder and I just don't have the space to keep working with them. They are a cross between barred cochins which I hatched from eggs from Ontario and an exhibition line of black cochins. These are F1, so are still a project, but have gotten much better in type. These were selected for type rather than colour, with the intention of selecting for both type and colour out of next year's hatches. They have been shown all over the island this summer. The group consists of (all 2025 hatched): - 2 barred cockerels, culled down to the best out of this years hatches, $15 each - 1 younger barred cockerel (late May hatch), too young to really evaluate yet, free as I can't guarantee quality - 2 barred pullets, laying since beginning of August, $50 each - Optional, some black pullets. 4 are similar aged to the barreds, and 2 were a January hatch and are a bit older. Barred crossed to black gives you 50/50 blacks and barreds, not sex linked, $50 each - Optional, 2 black cockerels, one has red leakage in his hackles, free Hopefully someone is interested in working with these. I only know of one other person working with bantam barred cochins in Canada, who is in the lower mainland. There are a few people in the US who are working with them, who could be informational resources. The birds are still a project, but have a lot of potential. They also would have the possibility of created sexed chicks, if a barred female is crossed with a black male. The female chicks would be black and the males barred.There is a ton of intrest in sexed chicks, so it could be a business opportunity. Located in Central Saanich.
