Bicycle/Pedicab mechanic

Mechanic/General Maintenance Person for the Victoria Pedicab Company Position available immediately Mon, Wed, Fri evenings 6 pm to 11:30 (ish) Additional hours available on request. Light to medium duty working unsupervised. Primary Duties include: - Mobile repair or delivery of one of 2 spare pedicabs - Routine repair and maintenance of a fleet of 30 pedicabs - Wheel truing, spoke replacement and tube repair. - General make work assignments. Reliability and ability to be self-directed while trouble shooting solutions. Familiarity with bicycle repairs AND/OR a working knowledge of hydraulic brake systems, electric motors, differentials and axles and light wiring systems. Professional communication with our team of 40 pedicab operators and manager is a must. Continual support provided by the owner and manager. We strive for a happy, respectful and supportive workplace environment. We work out of a well-lit shipping container at Ogden Point. There are all necessary tools and an organized and well stocked parts inventory. Work assignments and urgent maintenance requests are delivered digitally. The 30 pedicab fleet is well serviced and each operator performs a daily checklist before each shift. Will be trained with aspects of our fleet which includes a standard mountain bike frame and assembly, a custom rear drive train, hydraulic brake and axle system and an electric assist motor system. A manual guide is also available. The owner’s knowledge of the pedicabs is always available during and after shifts. We strive to give a low stress environment and allow the mechanic the ability to own their position with minimal guidance. For the right candidate, this could be a position that could be held for many seasons (April through October each year). There is some flexibility with the work schedule and hours can be added or subtracted slightly but we do expect high dependability as the fleet relies on a quick response (be in a constant state of readiness) when a pedicab needs immediate assistance. $30.50 per hour to start and a possible increase depending on experience and ability to be self-directed.
