Position Summary: The Position reports to Business Services Manager We are seeking a reliable Janitor to join our team, working under the supervision of the Business Services Manager. This role involves maintaining the Community office space and other JHS residential properties, with responsibilities split between janitorial duties and maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate will work independently, with minimal supervision, ensuring a clean and safe environment for all. Attention to detail and a strong work ethic are essential for success in this role. This is an in-person role with no opportunity to work-from home. What You'll Be Doing: Service Work (65%) Keeping building and properties in clean and orderly condition. Performing routine cleaning activities, including: Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming floors. Scrubbing, sanitizing, and suppling restroom facilities. Dusting furniture, walls, and equipment. Cleaning windows, mirrors, and partitions. Preparing and mixing cleaning solutions. Setting up rooms and equipment for classes and lessons. Maintain records, including various logs, key registers, and janitorial supplies inventory, and other records. Assist and order for inventory management. Maintenance Work (35%) General carpentry maintenance such as building repairs, patching, grouting, caulking, and painting. Plumbing maintenance such as unblocking waste lines, replacing fixtures such as flush tank mechanisms, toilets, sinks and faucets. Landscape maintenance included mowing lawns, weed trimming, tree pruning. Assisting with scheduled maintenance programs on building system. Perform other duties and projects as required and not limited to the responsibilities as mentioned. *The assigned percentage of job responsibilities may vary based on organizational and operational priorities. What We’re Looking For: Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Proficient in verbal and written English at a professional level. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle. Criminal Record Check. Emergency First Aid certification is an asset. Good health, physically able to perform the duties of the position and ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and objects. Skills and Competencies: High proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint). Willing and able to remain on site after normal working hours as required to handle any emergency maintenance situations (i.e. mechanical systems offline etc.). A friendly and helpful personality who will interact professionally with residents, visitors and staff. Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures. Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions. Ability to perform repetitive motion for periods of time. Building Service Worker Level 1 / WHIMIS training/certificate considered an asset. Understanding of occupational hazards and safety rules. Ability to handle and mix cleaning chemicals safely. Physically fit to perform manual tasks, including lifting heavy objects. Endurance to perform repetitive motions and tasks for extended periods.
