An iconic “Jangada” lounge chair by Jean Gillon, produced in the 1960s–1970s by Italma Wood Art in Brazil. Alongside designers like Percival Lafer and Jorge Zalszupin, Gillon helped define the warm, handcrafted character of Brazilian modernism—and the Jangada remains one of the movement’s most recognizable and sought-after designs. This example is fully authentic, retaining its original black leather cushions with deep tufting and the enveloping comfort that marks early production. The hand-woven cord sling is beautifully preserved, forming the hammock-like cradle that makes the chair so distinctive. The solid rosewood frame has been freshly cleaned and polished by our team, showcasing its rich tone and expressive grain. Despite its age, the chair is in excellent condition, with the kind of patina across the leather and wood that collectors prize in an untouched Gillon piece. A standout work of Brazilian mid-century craft and artistry—an essential addition for collectors who appreciate the sculptural warmth of Gillon, Lafer, and Zalszupin. 39" wide 45" deep 33" high We’re now pleased to offer free delivery to most locations across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
