This hammered and etched copper work by Harold Alfred (B. 1953, Canada). Alfred is from the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation and is a ‘Namgis artist from Alert Bay, B.C. In Kwakwaka’wakw mythology, copper symbolizes great wealth, prestige, and elements of life. It was believed to have magical properties that affected human health, as well as symbolizing light and other basic elements of life. Alfred’s works can be found in prestigious collections worldwide, including the Vancouver Art Gallery, Royal British Columbia Museum, and the Royal Collection Trust in the UK.The piece is signed on the reverse center.
