Bergenia (Elephant's Ears) is a clump-forming evergreen perennial that has erect clusters of rosy-red flowers. They rise above a rosette of leathery, shiny, wavy-edged leaves. Can be used as ground cover because their foliage can be evergreen. Bergenia is an "old-fashioned" that is now a little less common. Easy to grow, great coverage. --Plant bergenia, in the ground or a container, just to the top of the root ball. --Space about 12 to 18 inches apart --Spread ~2-3 feet, ~12-18 inches tall. --Tolerate a broad spectrum of soil types --Deer and rabbits tend not to be attracted to or eat bergenia. --Attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. 2nd picture is in our yard, Bergenia leaf shown in contrast to Red Valerian in the back.
