In-Person Tutoring (Certified BC Teacher) Math Reading Writing ESL, Etc.

Hello, I’m Shawn. I’m a certified BC school teacher. In 2021, I resigned from my full-time teaching position at St. Margaret’s school (SMS), a K-12 independent school for girls in Victoria. In the 2022/2023 school year, I resumed working as a self-employed private tutor and am currently tutoring 20+ students. I have classes in student homes and public libraries in Victoria seven days a week, and on the Westshore on weekends. I have four decades of experience teaching and tutoring students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, as well as college students and adults. Previously, I taught English to children and adults in Taiwan for twelve years, including at an English immersion kindergarten, while I studied Mandarin. I tutored math, science, and English in Vancouver for two years while attending UBC to complete my Education degree, and in Victoria for two years while working as a teacher-on-call for the Sooke school district. During that time, I also taught Mandarin 12 at Queen Margaret’s School in Duncan. During my 19 years teaching full time at SMS, I taught high school social studies, ESL, and English, and provided student support for middle and high school math, science, humanities, ESL, music, and Mandarin. Before completing a B.A. in Asian Area Studies (China) at UBC, I completed university courses in Calculus I and II, matrix algebra, probability, statistics, micro- and macroeconomics, physics, and chemistry. I tutor most subjects, mainly Grades 1-10, including math support and enrichment, English literacy, ESL, science, Physics 11, social studies, etc. I'm a native English speaker. My BC Teacher Certification (which includes vulnerable sector and criminal record checks) is current and valid. References are available on request. I provide tax receipts for students with diagnosed learning disabilities and am authorized to accept funding from the BC Ministry of Children and Families. I tutor seven days a week in the Victoria area. On weekdays, I tutor during the school day (for home schoolers, college students, and adults) as well as after school and evenings. On weekends and holidays, I am also available to tutor on the Westshore.
