Title: Haida Eagle Artist: Bernie Williams (Haida name, Skundaal, from the Raven Clan) Date: 1989 Size (including frame): 2 feet x 2 feet Career Highlights: - apprenticed under the late Haida artist Bill Reid - created a button blanket for Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Rigoberta Tum, to wear upon her acceptance of the prize (2009) - graduated from Vancouver's Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts program under established Kwakwaka'wakw/Haida artist Dan Wallace - led the design and carving of the Survivors Totem Pole honouring survivors of colonialism, racism and poverty. The pole is 8 metres high and carved from a 1000 year old cedar tree.
