The Butchart Gardens - Night Custodial

The Butchart Gardens is looking for individuals to fill the following position: DEPARTMENT: VISITOR SERVICES CUSTODIAL POSITION: NIGHT CUSTODIAN The Butchart Gardens is looking for motivated and trustworthy individuals to fill positions on the Night Custodial crew (graveyard shift). The Custodial Department is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene standards of washrooms and general buildings including vacuuming, mopping, washing, and garbage/recycling pickup. The successful candidate will be required to: • sweep, mop, scrub, polish and wax floors, hallways and stairs • clean non-slip concrete, concrete, linoleum, ceramic tile, hardwood, vinyl and slate floors • report issues or safety hazards such as damaged or broken equipment to their supervisors • wash walls, clean garburators, wash kitchen carts, clean elevator tracks • inspect surfaces and objects for dust, dirt and grease, and select appropriate cleaning agents to remove stains from materials • use industrial vacuum cleaner, scrubber/buffer and steam cleaner to remove scraps, dirt, debris and other refuse • work alone, at night with minimal supervision The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications and demonstrated attributes: • applicants must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision and follow instructions related to business maintenance. • ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks effectively • physical ability to perform repetitive tasks such as bending, lifting, reaching and scrubbing • have or be willing to purchase CSA approved steel toed footwear • 1 year custodial or otherwise relevant experience is preferred. The Butchart Gardens are looking for either one full time (30 – 40 hours a week) or two part time part (18 – 24 hours a week) individuals from April to October and again December 1 to January 6. The position requires both weekday and weekend work with shifts primarily from 9:00pm – 5:30am. Wages starting at $21.49.
