$190 · Mid-Century (MCM) Pair of Matching Walnut Side Chairs

Matching pair of mid-century dining chairs; most likely rare, early “Knoll Compass” walnut, barrel-back arm chairs. In all of my sleuthing and “furniture detective” work, these are what I believe them to be- without having a maker’s stamp or logo on them. They were in pretty rough shape when I acquired them so I have refurbished them with re-gluing joints, and reupholstering the seats in a neutral tweed upholstery fabric. They can be used as dining chairs or accent chairs but are somewhat “petite” for lounging and relaxing in. The stain used is a “charcoal” Rubio Monocoat stain. Rubio is a “plant-based, hardwax oil wood with finish 0% VOC which does not contain solvents or water. It works by forming a molecular bond with the topmost fibers of the wood. This results in a durable finish with great wear-, water- and heat resistance, all while keeping the natural look and feel of the wood”. It gives a monochrome colour but still allows the grain of the walnut to show through. There are still “scars, bumps and bruises” in the them but are of solid structure and retain their beautiful, simplistic mid-century design lines. There are less quality, modern imitations; why not own a pair of originals? As a comparison- this set of four sold at a U.S. auction site.
